Singapore Stories 2020

“Re-imaging The History and Creating The Future”

In line with the 2020 Met Gala theme 'About Time', last year's Singapore Stories invites designers to examine the time line of Singapore fashion-celebrating the past and interpreting the future.

Last year, we chose 9 semi-finalists to compete in the running to be named the winner of Singapore Stories and receive the Singapore Fashion Awards for 2020.

Not only will the winner have the opportunity for one of their winning looks displayed in the contemporary gallery at Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) alongside renowned designers in #SGFashionNow but also a retail collaboration with SocietyA as part of their Designer Spotlight. They will also be nominated as Singapore's representative for FD Paris fashion show during Paris Fashion Week 2021 where they will earn a spotlight in fashion global scene.

In July, we shortlisted 5 promising designers to continue onto the finals where their capsule collection will be showcased in October for all to see. These contestants have not only experience the vigor of being in a 8 month fashion journey but also endured the challenges of competing in a pandemic where all their businesses were affected and their daily lives greatly impacted.

On October 29, 2020 at 8:00PM SGT we finally announced the winner of Singapore Stories 2020, Carol Chen, and she took home the prestigious Singapore Fashion Awards title and all the prizes with it.

Winner: Carol Chen

Dubbed an “International Style Icon” by E!News, Carol is a serial entrepreneur who has built five companies across four countries. She had a fashion label in Los Angeles which retailed in over 300 stores, established her own factory in China which manufactured uniforms for top teams, designed a mixed martial arts brand in Hong Kong worn by champion fighters, and created Singapore’s first designer rental destination.

#SGFASHIONNOW

#SGFASHIONNOW is the latest exhibition at Asian Civilisations Museum. It is a showcase created in collaboration with TaFF and LASALLE College of the Arts’ School of Fashion - a result of ACM’s first tripartite partnership with Singapore’s fashion ecosystem. #SGFASHIONNOW features pieces from the finalists of Singapore Stories 2020 and renowned Singaporean designers - highlighting the diverse approaches of craftsmanship in our local fashion scene.
