Singapore Stories 2021

  • “Fashion and Technology: A New Era”

2021’s theme highlights Singapore’s as a country that embraces technology and innovation and celebrates its accomplishment as a smart nation.

In line with one of TaFF’s core pillar - Technology and Innovation, we encouraged contestants to leverage innovation to drive sustainability and to foster a circular design thinking approach to their designs.

Winner: Jon Max Goh

Formally trained in womenswear, Jon Max Goh graduated from the prestigious Parsons The New School for Design, New York, as Menswear Designer of the Year (2015), where he earned his B.F.A. in Fashion Design.

His work revolves heavily around dissecting (his) culture and identity and enjoys exploring how these ideas take shape in the form of the wearable garment, always underpinned by a belief in the narratives of memory, makers and community.

He was a recipient of the CFDA Scholarship Award (2014), Hugo Boss Award (2015), and was one of i-D Magazine’s Top 10 Undergraduate Designers to watch. He has since been featured in STYLE.com (now VOGUE.com), Vogue Italia, Interview Mag, Buro 24/7 Singapore, Esquire Singapore and Harper’s Bazaar Singapore.

State of Becoming

"The collection for me is a dream world: of what a non-eurocentric landscape might look like. My hope for this collection is for it to use fashion and garments to question these cultural narratives and memories, in order to celebrate our heritage."
